I am a 52 year old single mother of 3 teenagers; 18, 17, 15. I am an 8th grade science teacher in Rock Hill, SC. Absolutely love the outdoors and have done a lot of day hiking with my kids around the area and out West.
I hiked on the Crowders Mtn to Kings Mtn hike last April - it was a 14 mile hike just before Easter.
I have enjoyed all the places we have hiked in NC - Pisgah, DuPont State Forest, etc. Just the chance to get away and enjoy the outdoors is a favorite place for me. 4 years ago, I took my kids to Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons and that was a favorite until we went to Grand Canyon, Arches, Zion and Bryce this summer - the Utah National Parks are now our not-so-local favorite.
Mostly interested in hiking but am willing to try most any outdoor activity. I have never actually backpacked over night but would like to try that at some point. My 17 year old daughter and I have a goal within the next several years to do a 3-4 day hike of the Rim-to-Rim trail at the Grand Canyon I used to mountain bike many years ago and wouldn't mind picking that up again
Even if I am not especially fast, I consider myself an intermediate to skilled day hiker. Hiking would have to be my favorite outdoor activity
